Pa el Norte! pt.2

Our dreams started in the first week of July. Jari had three specific dreams and she told them to me:

  • 1st day, she had a box of things packed leaving the Nehemiah Center.
  • 2nd day, she was observing a narrow field of golden wheat with only one person working the field.
  • 3rd and final day, was she went on a trip and forgot many things in her suitcases, (she knows how to pack a suitcase so that was a good one!)

We prayed about these dreams. Then I had two dreams the next week.

  • 1st day, I was welding steel with a missionary who had more than 25 years living in Nicaragua, who knew some people wouldn't last here in Nicaragua.
  • 2nd day, we joined a team in an old quinta style house in that needed lots of repairs, and it was very outdated. It needed to be torn down and rebuilt. On the otherside of a canal was construction of high rise buildings.
An old quinta in Managua

With these very clear messages and we continued to pray. Our time with Dunamis has taught us about discernment. Discernment is the ability to perceive or recognize the difference, or the ability to judge well. Here is a Presbyterian Reformed Ministries International blog about discernment

Jari and I continued in prayer over these dreams and asking the Holy Spirit to show us what the purpose of these dreams were about. We do this in order to cooperate with the Holy Spirit. In the book of James, chapter 1, verse 5, we read "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." We shared our dreams with pastor Earl and his wife Beverly in a video chat, and we prayed over the dreams together.

We started to feel the need to move from Managua and go to northern Nicaragua. However, we didn't know where or when, or how to move there! Just that a move was coming, we continued to pray and listen.

At the end of August 2020, pastor David from our Dunamis prayer groups in Jinotega, sent a request to the group to pray for a family in need of a house. Jari wanted to go and help the family by bringing some things to them, including a mattress! A mattress?! I didn't want to drive for three hours up to the mountains with a mattress tied to our roof. Also, August is when the first wave of the pandemic was coming down, we had been in quarantine for the past few months. We were hesitant, but Jari was persistent, and I persistently resisted! Until she said,

"Jesse, think of it as exploring new territories."

That sentence broke through my hesitation, stubbornness, disagreement, what ever you want to call it. My ears lifted up and my eyes opened wider, and I said "Alright, when do we go?" I was back in action, down for whatever, vamonos! It is rare for something to change your mind so quickly, and it is so obvious now that the Holy Spirit removed the covers over my ears in that moment. Now Jari and I had unity, and so we drove to Jinotega to deliver a full size mattress to pastor David!

Guayacan Road to Jinotega

We met pastor David for the first time in person, he was delighted to receive the mattress and some other things we brought for the family. We then went to have coffee with him and another lady named Tania. Then we were invited to lunch at Nathan's house, who coordinates children's kitchens in the mountain side of the city. This was our first time inside the city of Jinotega, and not just passing through, and our first road trip in over three months!

After lunch we decided it was time to return to Managua. Pastor David and Tania wanted to pray for us and our return trip. After our prayer time Pastor David revealed what he saw, and it was amazing!...

Part 3 coming up!...
