45 minute renovations

We have been planning a new virtual workshop with the Nehemiah Center since June. These virtual workshops are part of the Nehemiah Center's larger online plan called Church and the Coronavirus.

Rather than let the Nicaraguan churches stay closed, or open without anyone giving some kind of counsel, we decided to offer a virtual training. It was a challenge for the Nehemiah Center staff because training online was completely new and unfamiliar. There was confusion and resistance, but group prayer helped us to unite in spirit and get the planning done. The project is online now! The work is virtual but it is not lightweight at all! We have 24 churches to train for this project by October! Freddy and I are teaching 6 sessions a week to two different churches, weekly, until October. Each virtual session is 45 minutes long, but sometimes we go over if the conversation is good. Freddy and I are facilitating the subject of overcoming scarcity. We use some concepts from the Good Sense course.

The themes are:

  • Overcoming Scarcity
  • Diligent Earner
  • Wise Saver
The economy in Nicaragua is getting worse as the pandemic continues. Thank God we are experiencing a break in the sickness and death, for now (Please pray it stays this way). This is allowing people to get out into the market and earn some money. With so many jobs lost and no unemployment system here, people are seeking out ways to continue providing food, shelter, and healthcare for their families.

Our three workshops focus on practical ways to use the resources each Nicaraguan family has available to them. We encourage them to overcome the scarcity mindset with lessons taken from the Holy Bible. We are witnessing the churches come together and make a change for their congregations. They are sending us pictures of their homework and practices in the WhatsApp chat groups!

Blanca repairing our chair lacing

Meet Blanca! She attends a small church in a barrio just to the east of our house. So, she is our neighbor. Her father was a carpenter, a furniture maker. Her brothers continue in the trade and Blanca has some skills of her own. She knows how to repair and finish furniture and has thought about starting her own repair business but never started. Well, after the diligent earner workshop she has a written plan now and was promoting her skills in the WhatsApp group. I invited her over to fix some chairs we have and she did a great job. Her husband came along to accompany her and lend a hand. She's putting a sign up in front of her house now and clearing a space to work out of.

Our God is awesome, and His Word is truth! A 45 minute online workshop has renewed some minds, because God's Word will not return to Him empty (Isaiah 55:11). Have you read your Holy Bible today?

It's not a goal, until it's written! Blanca's plan

Please pray for Blanca's new plans
