Adjustments in Jehova Nissi Clinic
The coronavirus is peaking in Nicaragua and spreading rapidly across the communities. Many of our friends and co-workers at the Nehemiah center have been affected by the virus. Program participants have become ill while some are currently caring for family members who are battling this virus. Unfortunately, there has been lack of response from the government. No official reliable data of confirmed cases, deaths, and recoveries is available.
A recent press release was made by more than 30 medical associations urging the country, the public and private sector to auto quarantine to begin a shut down of non-essential businesses as other countries have done. This may help minimize the spread of the virus and keep the hospitals and the health care system from collapsing.
Businesses are taking their own measures to help with containment of the virus, some have closed their facilities and have gone online to continue their operations. Others have decreased their hours and restaurants have closed off their dining areas and are providing food pick up and delivery services. Grocery stores and other business are utilizing a delivery service called Hugo.
Our friend Dr. Karla had to make the difficult decision to temporarily close the consultation portion of the Clinica Jehovah Nissi. The clinic was seeing an increase in patients with symptoms of COVID-19. The clinic does not have the capacity, the medical supplies, nor the proper protective equipment to care for patients with covid and keep Dr. Karla and her staff safe. Although the clinic is closed, the pharmacy remains open with extended hours. Dr. Karla is utilizing the technology available to her to continue providing consultations via virtual visits using the application called Whatsapp.
Jesse has been researching online resources to continue to communicate and encourage our friends. He has shared online business resources that entrepreneurs can use to continue their business. An example is the widely used Whatsapp. It has a business application that allows business owners to separate their personal and business contacts, send auto messages and create catalogs. These features allow business owners to maintain a balance between their personal life and business.
Dr. Karla has now started to use this application. Dr. Karla and Jesse continue to have monthly phone calls to go over pharmacy inventory and new developments in demand for her services due to the corona virus pandemic. Establishing a work life balance is very important for her personal health and her families well being during these stressful times.
Please pray for Dr. Karla and the sick in her community. Two of her family members are infected with the virus.
