Adapting to COVID-19

This picture probably looks familiar to many of you by now. A screen shot of a teleconference call.

2nd Conference call with pastors and business owners
All over the world corona virus has had an impact and Nicaragua is no different. The Nehemiah Center has limited office hours and so we have to work from home now just like many all over the world. This month the infections appear to be rising.

Here the internet is not as fast and reliable. I do miss my old 100mps Comcast connection back in Michigan! Many people have a limited access to the internet and don't have a computer. However, a lot of people have a smartphone. Using their phones to connect on the call pictured above comes with a cost in buying extra mobile data. Buying extra data to join a video call shows commitment. All of these individuals were pleased to see each other. Our facilitators continue to show their dedication to financial stewardship for their communities. If you have enough mobile data the internet can be 4G on a phone if you live in the cities, like Managua. If you are able to have internet at home you may get 5-10mps of internet speed. That's not much compared to USA standards.

We continue to find ways to connect with our groups throughout the departments of Managua and Carazo. While we stay at home to avoid contracting or spreading the virus, we see God's work continues!

We are in a country where face to face relationships are critical for establishing connections. It's hard to find ways for people to adapt to technology, Nicaragua is a little behind on this. But I am sure this is happening all over the world. We all miss physical contact and just being in the same room with our friends, family, and coworkers. The isolation shows you how connected we are and how much God has created us to need one another. We crave a connection to other humans, and God wants to connect with us! There are many theories and thoughts as to why the pandemic is spreading across the whole globe. This is an opportunity to connect with our Creator. The loving God who has slowed down the whole world, so we have a chance to talk with Him. It's the way I'm looking at it. That is why he sent his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sin, negating our inability to love one another. This way we will not perish from the earth or eternity, but have forever lasting life. Believe in Jesus Christ and you can connect with God. Don't miss your chance, pray to Jesus, ask Him directly why this is happening. I know you'll get an answer!
